Charlie Heal is a Chartered British Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications, advises on global intellectual property strategy, and helps clients enforce and defend their IP rights.

Charlie graduated from the University of York with a Master's degree in Chemistry, studying organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, alongside specialist topics including catalysis, green chemistry and clean technologies.

During his industrial placement, Charlie researched novel catalysts for manufacturing refrigerant gases with lower global warming potential. Before joining Albright IP, he also worked on developing sustainable building materials, creating bio-based lime plasters and plasterboard formulations.

Charlie has a particular interest in climate technology and enjoys helping innovators protect sustainable technologies. Outside work, he enjoys exploring new places and walking in the Cotswolds.

Frederick is a Chartered British Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and Higher Courts Litigator with experience across a broad range of technologies.

His patent practice covers artificial intelligence, machine learning, electronics, signal processing and mechanical inventions. Alongside patent prosecution, he advises on contentious intellectual property matters, including patent, trade mark, design and copyright infringement. Frederick has a strong record of resolving disputes on favourable terms while keeping costs proportionate for clients.

Before joining Albright IP, Frederick completed a master's degree in Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Oxford and spent two years working on communication protocols and web technologies.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, the European Patent Institute, AIPPI and the Institute of Engineering and Technology.

James graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2017 with a First Class degree in History.

Before joining Albright IP, James worked in-house at a global fashion brand, managing global brand protection and trade mark prosecution matters.

In 2022, James completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property at Bournemouth University, earning a CITMA Awards nomination. He qualified as a UK Trade Mark Attorney in 2025 after achieving a Distinction in the Professional Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Trent University.

James advises on a wide range of trade mark prosecution and protection matters, with a particular interest in the commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property.

Outside work, James enjoys running, paddleboarding and countryside walks with his French bulldog.

Joel graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 2015 with a First Class Law degree (LLB), before completing a Commercial Law Master’s degree (LLM) at the University of Bristol in 2016.

In 2020, Joel completed the Certificate in Trade Mark Law and Practice at Queen Mary University. In 2022, he achieved a distinction in the Trade Mark Practice Professional Certificate at Nottingham Trent University and qualified as a UK Trade Mark Attorney.

Before joining Albright IP in March 2019, Joel gained legal experience as a paralegal at law firms in Bath and Bristol.

Joel advises on all aspects of trade mark prosecution, enforcement and defence, including international filing strategies, oppositions and domain name disputes.

Outside work, Joel enjoys collecting, playing and repairing guitars and spending time with his Maine Coon cat. 

Katie qualified as a UK and European Trade Mark Attorney in 2002 after graduating from the University of Leicester with an Honours degree in Law and obtaining the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law.

After qualifying, Katie joined a national patent and trade mark firm, becoming a partner in 2007. She joined Albright IP in 2009 as Trade Marks Director to lead the firm's trade marks team.

Katie is a commercially focused attorney with extensive experience in all aspects of trade mark law, including clearance searches, portfolio management, international filing strategies, prosecution, oppositions, invalidation, revocation and enforcement. She works with clients ranging from start-ups to multinational businesses to protect and maximise the value of their brands.

Outside work, Katie is a keen equestrian and former international three-day event rider who now enjoys supporting her daughter's passion for dressage.

Dr Will Doherty is a Chartered British Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and IP Litigator (Patents). He prepares, files and prosecutes patents across a wide range of technical sectors, while also advising on patent infringement matters.

Will holds a doctorate in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, specialising in spectroscopy and ultracold matter. Before joining Albright IP, he worked for a financial software company and has experience across chemistry, software, medical devices, electronics and mechanical technologies.

Will focuses on making the patent application process straightforward and transparent, helping clients identify key commercial decisions early. He has a strong track record of securing granted patents and takes pride in helping clients use intellectual property to achieve commercial success.

He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and the European Patent Institute.
